Ready, Set, Design

As July is winding down, Project Runway is gearing up. Last night was the first episode of Season 9. With the new twist 20 designers flew to New York to interview with the judges and Tim Gunn. Sixteen of them made the cut and thankfully Becky Ross and Bryce Black made the cut. This season promises to be incredibly interesting after seeing the design skills of the sixteen during the first challenge. If you missed the episode last night watch it on Lifetime. Ready, set, design!

Portland and Project Runway

I apologize for not writing for a few weeks.

As Project Runway begins to air Season 9 on July 28 Portland can be proud to see two of it's own designers compete. Not only are Becky Ross and Bryce Black Portlandians, they are recent graduates of The Art Institute of Portland.

Becky Ross has a colorful, fun style. Her favorite designers include Vivenne Westwood. Her Cirque Militaire collection (I'm not positive on the name) was a stunning addition to her portfolio.

Bryce Black designs from his senior collection were dark, asymmetrical creative pieces. Since his style icon and dream client is Lady Gaga, this seems right on target.

Black and Ross are joined by 18 designers from New York, New York to Snohomish, Washington to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. They range in age from 21 to 57. A few things will be changing on this season check out Lifetime's Project Runway website to see what and make sure to tune in July 28th at 9PM.

Portland's Young Fashion Designers

Earlier this month a fabulous fashion extravaganza was occurring while many were enjoying a parade of the Rose Festival. Pure Space in the Pearl district of my beloved Portland was filled with 900 of Portland's upcoming dazzling designers, established (and adored) designers and fashion lovers (plus yours truly).

Portland Monthly's Fashion Editor (and previous apparel and textile designer), Eden Dawn and Kami Gray, Personal and Film Stylist co-chaired The Art Institute of Portland's annual fashion show with program coordinator Sue Bonde. Fit2Print was a fashion show of epic proportions and OSI Photography caught it all from pre-show set-up, to backstage, to the after party. The first half was all Art Institute student collaborations conveying a message (hence fit to print). The second half was composed of senior collections from talented recent grads. Check out OSI Photography for all the best images. (Legally I can't post them.)

Enjoy the fashions!
